What happened to Mono Red decks ?

Red has lost a lot .... It has lost amazing burn spells: Lightning Bolt, Burst Lightning, Forked Bolt, Searing Blaze, and Staggershock. It’s lost terrific aggressive creatures: Goblin Guide, Plated Geopede, Kargan Dragonlord, and Kiln Fiend. Gone are the combo cards: Pyromancer Ascension and Splinter Twin. Red is no longer the power color in Standard.

The New Power Deck ? White ?

How would this stack up in your FnM competition ?

White is both powerful and versatile. It has good cards to be the cornerstones of decks, such as Champion of the Parish, Honor of the Pure, Intangible Virtue, Puresteel Paladin, Mentor of the Meek, Tempered Steel, and Geist-Honored Monk. It has terrific 1-drops in the form of Champion of the Parish, Elite Vanguard, Gideon's Lawkeeper, and Glint Hawk. It has excellent removal: Dispatch, Fiend Hunter, Oblivion Ring, and Day of Judgment. It has terrific sideboard cards: Timely Reinforcements, Slayer of the Wicked, Purify the Grave, Celestial Purge, Divine Offering, and Revoke Existence. It even has game-breakers like Hero of Bladehold, Elspeth Tirel, Gideon Jura, and Sun Titan. It also has great synergy with artifacts with Tempered Steel, Dispatch, Myrsmith, Puresteel Paladin, Origin Spellbomb, Glint Hawk, Glint Hawk Idol, and Shrine of Loyal Legions.
Perhaps the most obvious use of White is White Weenie/Humans:
Creatures (28)

Stubz on Friday Night Magic

Sorry, no video of me. Homie don't play dat.

In short: it sucked. Not because I got my butt kicked, drew a bad consolatory card, or didn't win. It's more: the idiot who never shuts up, the kid who doesn't talk loud enough to hear and can't comprehend what you say, and the idiot who thinks he's hot stuff because he's been to the state finals.

In short the people killed me on the idea of publicly playing M:TG. It took all the fun out of it and I have no interest in playing; beyond the fun.

Introducing: Stubz

Yo, I'm Stubz. I met Drazz and Vix through a mutual preference for beating people with foam sticks, aka Dagorhir. I still know them because they're AWESOME.

Some my ask my Geek creditably. Well I play Dagorhir, I play Magic: The Gathering (since 4th edt.),
I've done MMO's - EverQuest from DoN, EverQuest II from KoS, Final Fantasy XI from Chains of Prometheus, was even conned into trying Vanguard (collectors edt!) from launch, tried WoW.
Big on FPS's. Counter-Strike (since 1.3), Modern Warfare / Black Ops, HALO fan-boy ( =\ ),
Sometimes enjoy a good RTS - Star Wars : Galactic Battle Grounds, Natural Selection, Red Alert.

There you have it, I hope to contribute to the blog from experience points a little different from others.

BlizzCon Controversy of the Day - TDW Geeks:

'via Blog this'

BlizzCon Controversy of the Day: Blizzard has landed itself in hot water for showing a video containing homophobic slurs at this year’s BlizzCon.

The vid, introduced by Blizzard art director Sam “Samwise” Didier, featured the lead singer of metal band Cannibal Corpse disparaging Alliance players, calling them “Night Elf fa***ts” and suggesting that they “slit [their] wrists” and “f**king die.”

The pro-Horde crowd went wild, but players’ reactions on WoW messageboards have been anything but positive.

Even those negative threads focus mostly on the mistreatment and abuse of Alliance players at BlizzCon, with homophobia taking a backseat to faction-hate.

In case you’re not mad enough yet, there’s also an uncensored version of the video making the rounds online.

Terra Nova Nerf

Source TDW Geek

Low-Budget TV Props of the Day: Redditor Drahos spotted something familiar on the set of Terra Nova: barely-disguised Nerf guns standing in for high-tech weaponry.

He writes, “You can nab these things for $40 retail!”

Elsewhere in the thread, theartfulcodger, a self-described “Property Master with 30 years experience,” suggests that most of the budget for the show went to its 16(!) producers, leaving the prop department with Nerf-level money to spend.

Still, he says, they should have done more than paint the weapons, because “showing it unmodified is breaking copyright, unless they acquired permission from Hasbro in advance.”

Whether he’s right or not, would anyone but a huge Nerf fan even notice?

Back in Azeroth

After a 7 month break, Drazz and I spent the evening playing World of Warcraft...it was like riding a bike!
I should have her to 85 tomorrow, if I'm not too busy in the shop, then it's gold farming and PUG's to get her geared up. I did not have her exactly "raid ready" in March, so she's pretty under geared at this point. After I get her rolling, I'll get my Rogue up to speed.

I know all three of our kids are growing up gamers...

Ready to play? 91 percent of kids are gamers

Winda Benedetti
My son Oz is one of the 91 percent of kids between the ages of two and 17 who are gamers.
By Winda Benedetti
While the average age of today's video game player is 37 years old (no really), new research shows that the youngest generation is as game savvy as they get.
According to a new report from market research company The NPD Group, 91 percent of kids in the U.S. between the ages of two and 17 are gamers.
The NPD Group also points out that, while the population growth of kids in that age range since 2009 increased 1.54 percent in the U.S., the gaming population of that age group has grown a whopping 12.68 percent.
And the survey of more than 4,000 young people found that the fastest growth has been among the toddler set — children ages two to five. The NPD researchers say the number of those youngest gamers has increased by 17 percent when compared to 2009.
The other segments driving this growth: girls and teens ages 15 to17.
So what's turning all these kiddies into gamers? Smartphones and tablets have played a large part in it, according to the NPD.
Since 2009, gaming on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets among kids has increased by 8 percent to 38 percent, while gaming on traditional portable gaming devices (think Nintendo DS and PlayStation PSP) grew from 38 percent to 45 percent.
NPD researchers collected the data via an online survey of 4,136 people age two to 17. They say that "in cases where surrogate reporting was used, mothers were asked to bring the child to the computer to answer survey questions, either with or without assistance."

While this news may be met with fear and concern from parents who don't play video games, as a gamer parent myself let me offer this bit of reassurance: Games can be a fantastic way to spend quality time with your children.
Yes, setting limits regarding what kind of games they play and for how long they play them is important, but so is finding games that you can play together. In our household, you're never too old and (almost) never too young to play video games, and playing together has created some great bonding moments and memories.
Meanwhile, with all the puzzle-oriented and thought-provoking titles being developed these days, I've found that gaming has been a fun way to encourage critical thinking skills in my own mini-gamer. ("Where's My Water" is my son's new favorite iPhone/iPad puzzler to play with his parents.)
But no matter what kind of game machine or gadget your child has access to, there are plenty of games and apps that are both appropriate for youngsters and enjoyable for parents. With that in mind, here are a few resources to help you jump into gaming with your offspring:
Want to know which video games are appropriate for your child's age? The ESRB explains the ratings system here.
Have a young child and a smartphone/tablet in the house? Check here, here and here for some games and apps that will entertain and perhaps even educate them.
Have an Xbox and Kinect in the house? Try these games. Also, Fruit Ninja Kinect is a must have for the whole family. And, keep your eyes open for "Sesame Street: Once Upon A Monster," which just launched today.
Speaking of Sesame Street, visit their website here for some fun and educational games for toddlers.
For the PlayStation 3 owning set, "EyePet" is a great option for the littlest gamers.
And, of course, there are plenty of kid-friendly options for devices like the Nintendo DS, 3DS and Wii.
